I hardly think Matlab is suitable for CS or programming in general. The objective of Matlab is for numerical system computing, in engineering/control/design. So, to compare MATLAB vs. Python for CS beginner, it's pretty unfair for MATLAB.

The same story if you're engineer then MATLAB is more comfortable with Simulink tools for system analysis. Python is hardly capable of doing anything here.

MATLAB and Python are just tools for different purposes.
